Neal, Thomas shine at Central Games

Jordan Neal and Kyrell Thomas led a number of athletes who scored multiple wins at the annual Magic Mist Central Zonal Games held last Tuesday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port-of-Spain.

Neal of Gaines Normal AME won gold in the 100, 200 and 400 metres in the 13-15 age-group in the Central B zone to be named the victor ludorum with 15 points as well as Thomas of Rosary Boys School, scored the same number of points and earned the award in the Central A zone after reaching the top of the podium in the same three events.

Coincidentally the feat was also achieved by three other athletes including U-11 victor ludorum Jaleel Eugene of Newtown Boys in the Central B while Victor: Richmond Street Boys' Makaelan Woods did it in the U-11 category and U-13 victrix, Shakira Joseph of St Rose’s Girls.

Sacred Heart Boys' Sean Hart also scored 15 points and was named the victor ludorum in the U-9 category after winning the 60m, 80m and the long jump events at a Games which were held in honour of Jenny Archer, former Principal of St Catherine’s Girls Anglican School, who would have been extremely proud of her girls as they were first place winners of the Central A march past with 167 points.

Chairman of the Games Lyle Reece paid homage to Archer during his address saying: "Mrs Archer passionately and unreservedly supported the purpose of these Games by providing yeoman duties in any area to which she could lend her expertise. We sincerely express our gratitude to her."

He went on to thank sponsor Magic Mist Services Limited, who has given its support over the past three years.

Magic Mist vice president Wayne Herbert brought greetings on behalf of his company and expressed the need to give back.

He said, "As an organisation we understand the importance of giving back to the communities within which we serve many of which fall within the Port-of-Spain Central school district.

"As such we sincerely believe it is our responsibility to harness and develop the potential of these young students - they are our future leaders."

Mucurapo Boys, definitely led in the Central B zone march past as they were adjudged the best on parade.

These outstanding athletes will go for glory on Fridaywhen the match up against the leading athletes from the various zones at the Rotary Games to be held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
