
Solange Skeene and Carlista Mohammed will square-off for the women's singles title in the Shell/Tranquillity Open Tennis Tournament.
Both advanced out of their respective matches in the semi-final round yesterday evening at Victoria Avenue in Port-of-Spain.
On court one, the match went to three sets and it was Skeene emerging with a 2-1 come-from behind victory over worthy opponent Trevine Sellier.
In a highly contested opening set both players were tied at 5-5, but it was Sellier getting the edge over Skeene, winning 7-5. However, Skeene stepped up her play and levelled the sets one-all, taking the second set 6-2, returning in the third and final set to claim it 6-1.
Skeene progresses to face Mohammed, who met Alexis Bruce in the other semi-final match-up on court two, and sealed a 2-0 (6-4, 6-3) win.
Action in the women's doubles quarter-final unfolded on court three, Brigette Garcia partnered with Emma Davis to defeat Maria Honore and Keesa Lee Young, 6-2, 6-3, to move on to the semifinals.
Garcia showed no tiredness minutes later on court one, getting more success in the mixed doubles competition. She teamed up with Ronald Robinson to easily get by duo Joel Alexander and Chelsea Mukerji, 6-1, 6-0, to advance to the next round.
In the other match in the mixed doubles category, Colin Auguste and Anya King topped the pair of Josh Gonsales and Haleigh Fabres, 6-0, 6-2.
